Dominion Energy Charity Classic continues Strong Support of Active and Veteran Military Members

Strata Clean Energy returns as Military Program sponsor to provide complimentary admission and hospitality

RICHMOND, Virginia – In what has become a tradition since the tournament’s inception in 2016, the Dominion Energy Charity Classic will welcome active and veteran military personnel to the tournament with a complimentary ticket and on-site hospitality, thanks to Strata Clean Energy. The Durham, N.C. based company is back for a third year as the Official Military Program Sponsor of the tournament.

Strata is dedicated to military hiring and training. “Veterans continue to make up a significant portion of our workforce across the country, and we actively engage with transitioning military service members at job fairs,” explained Markus Wilhelm, CEO of Strata. The company partners with Solar Ready Vets, a group of solar-workforce development programs funded by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to connect veterans and transitioning military service members with career training, professional development, and employment opportunities in the solar industry.

“This marks our third year sponsoring the Dominion Energy Charity Classic and supporting its military initiatives. Partnering with this event is a vital way for us to demonstrate our commitment to the Virginia communities we serve and to our nation’s veterans,” Wilhelm said.

The tournament, held October 17-20 at The Country Club of Virginia’s James River Course, has made a commitment to the military each year since its 2016 debut. For 2024, this includes:

“The PGA TOUR has a longstanding tradition of supporting active duty, reserve, retirees and other military service members and we are glad to continue the effort this year,” said tournament Executive Director Steve Schoenfeld. “A big thank you goes out to the Strata Clean Energy leadership for their commitment to our event and for supporting military members.”

Strata is responsible for developing, building, and maintaining utility-scale solar and battery energy storage systems — including more than 35 projects in Virginia that provide emissions-free power to homes and businesses. The company often partners with Dominion Energy to help the Commonwealth meet its goals as part of the Virginia Clean Economy Act, which outlines a path to zero-carbon emissions by 2050.
